Prepare and Serve Drinks Like a 007 -- Free Presentation at Dearborn Brewing Shows Glass Barware

Dearborn, MI 'Shaken, not stirred!' This is how undercover agent James Bond ordered his martinis throughout the famous movie series, but just what kind of barware was used to prepare such drinks?

See for yourself, first-hand, when Jonathan Furhman, president of the Michigan Depression Glass Society (MDGS), gives a free presentation on the history of vintage glass barware on Thursday, Oct. 19 at Dearborn Brewing.

Fuhrman will give a 20-minute talk entitled "Modern Brews & Vintage Glass Barware" at 6:30 p.m. at the popular brewery, located at 21930 Michigan Ave. He will be on hand from 6-7:30 p.m. displaying some of his collection of American-made glassware from the 1920s-1960s, including cocktail shakers, decanters, ice buckets, stemware and of course, beer mugs.

"This is a great opportunity for people to see a wide variety of vintage glass barware and consider owning pieces like this for home entertaining," said Fuhrman. "My personal collection of Depression-era and retro glassware includes hundreds of pieces that I enjoy and use regularly."

The barware presentation is creating excitement and awareness for the MDGS's 45th Annual Show & Sale being held Nov. 4 & 5 at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. Featuring over 20 glass dealers from across the country, it's the perfect place to shop and find a variety of vintage and retro glass pieces such as those Fuhrman will display at Dearborn Brewing.

In November, dealers will have a variety of glass for sale, from makers including Fostoria, Heisey, Fenton, Cambridge, Anchor Hocking, Hazel Atlas, Imperial, Westmoreland and more. The show is an ideal place to find vintage barware, kitchen glass, elegant glass, dinnerware and glass for home decorating.

Show hours are Saturday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. A $5 donation is collected and parking is free. Food services will be available from food truck Smokey Rhoads each day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The Ford Community and Performing Arts Center is located at 15801 Michigan Ave. (US12) at Greenfield Rd. Strollers are not permitted due to safety reasons.
