School Board Member Wants to Be Dearborn's State Representative
Democrat Roxanne McDonald says she will make school funding and education initiatives priorities if elected.

DEARBORN, MI – Roxanne McDonald, a Dearborn school board member, has announced she is a candidate for the District 15 seat in the Michigan House of Representatives.
The seat is currently held by Rep. George Darany, D-Dearborn, who cannot run again because of term limits.
McDonald won election to the school board in 2011 for a term ending this year. She served as the board’s president last year and, as a member of the Dearborn Board of Education, also serves as an elected member of the Henry Ford College Board of Trustees.

“This is a way for me to take my experience as a school board member and put it to work for Dearborn in the state Legislature,” McDonald said in a statement. “School funding and education policy are determined in Lansing, and I’m ready to work hard to represent the best interests of Dearborn schoolchildren in that setting.”

She said her life experiences outside of education have prepared her to be effective working on a variety of important issues that affect families.
McDonald and her husband, Chuck, have three sons. One is a junior in high school, another attends Henry Ford College and the oldest has completed military service, during which time McDonald was an active member of the Michigan Military Moms.
McDonald is a longtime Dearborn resident, having graduated from Dearborn High in 1982. She holds two associate degrees from Henry Ford College and a bachelor degree in business administration from Lawrence Technological University.
Before her election to the school board, she held leadership positions with her PTA and the Dearborn PTA Council. McDonald also is on the Dearborn Goodfellows board of directors and is an auxiliary member of the American Legion.
The 15th House District includes all of Dearborn, except for three precincts in the city’s northeast corner.
Michigan’s primary election will be held on Aug. 2. The winner of the Democratic and Republican primaries will face off in the Nov. 8 general election.
