Services Set for Dearborn Florist Lost to Cancer

Abbas Bazzi was a father of three and the owner of Flowers by Rene.

When Dearborn resident Abbas Bazzi passed away Oct. 30, Dearborn lost a talented florist—the owner of Flowers by Rene.

But Habib Bazzi of Habib's Cuisine also lost his best friend.

"He used to do some decoration at the banquet hall," Habib said of Abbas, whom he had known for 20 years. "We were very, very close friends."

Bazzi passed away after a year-and-a-half-long battle with mesothelioma. He is survived by his wife and three children. His mother, Hajji Hayat Shbib Bazzi, passed away several days later.

Habib remembers Abbas as a family man who loved his line of work and loved helping others—though he stayed humble about his work in the community.

"He was an unbelievable person," Habib shared. "He was a big supporter of organizations all over. He did a lot of help for orphans, but he didn't like to talk about it."

Habib said that Bazzi's family is not in need of donations, but that he asked that anyone who wishes to show their condolences do so through reflection.

"Pray for him," Habib added. "He was a good man."

A commemoration service will be held for Abbas Bazzi and his mother, Hajji Hayat Shbib Bazzi, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Islamic Center of America.
