"There is absolutely no doubt that the facts in this case are horrific," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. "It is beyond disturbing that the alleged person responsible for the stabbing death of her seven-year-old sister is thirteen years old."
Prosecutors said the parents left the two girls home alone Saturday morning. The girls then got into an argument and the teen waited in the bathroom until her younger sister walked in, and then stabbed her multiple times with a knife, according to prosecutors.
The teen then called 911 after the attack, according to prosecutors.
Worthy said her office considered charging the teen as adult-designated, meaning a judge would have more sentencing options if she is convicted, but opted to keep her in the juvenile system for a chance of rehabilitation.
"Hopefully then she would not be a danger to others," Worthy said in a statement. "While this is a difficult decision given these facts, it is the right thing to do in this case."
