Metro Detroit Girl Loses Fingers After Firework Explodes In Her Hand: Reports
Investigators believe the firework was something larger than an M-80, according to reports.
RIVER ROUGE, MI — An 11-year-old girl lost several fingers and her twin sister was injured after a firework blew up in her hand inside a River Rouge home Thursday, according to multiple reports.
Police said the girls lit the firework, thinking it was "something smaller," inside the home on Superior and Eaton streets at 5 p.m. when it blew up, according to reports.
The 11-year-old-girl, who was holding the firework, lost several fingers while her twin sister suffered minor injuries in the explosion, according to police.

The girls then ran to a neighbor's house where a nurse applied a tourniquet until medical officials arrived at the home, according to reports.
Both girls were taken to a nearby hospital where they are expected to be ok, according to police.

River Rouge Deputy Police Chief Dasumo Mitchell told Fox 2 Detroit investigators believe the firework was something larger than an M-80, which is a large firecracker and illegal in Michigan.
Mitchell also told the outlet there was an adult woman inside the home, but she was asleep at the time of the explosion, while the girls' mother was away at work.
Police were still investigating the incident.
