United Way for Southeastern Michigan, in conjunction with agency and community partners, offers budget coaching and financial-related services delivered in communities via Centers for Working Families and Community Financial Centers. Thanks to the support of community and corporate partners, over 60 thousand families and individuals have reached their financial goals including Larry Hardy.
Hardy is a Detroit resident with cerebral palsy who was able to purchase a new home better suited to his needs via United Ways’ financial stability program. Recommended by partner agency Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency, Hardy is known for his outgoing personality and was named that agency’s ‘Client of the Year’ more than once. He works two jobs, and refuses to allow his disability to limit him. He learned of the Habitat for Humanity home program, and took advantage of financial stability services like financial education around credit and budgeting. Hardy also utilized the United Way IDA Partnership match program, offering $3 match for every $1 saved, to close on his very first home within a year. During the event, a video was also played featuring Hardy sharing his story.
