UnitedHealthcare Donates Laptops to HYPE Recreation Center

UnitedHealthcare is donating 35 laptop computers to community organizations across Michigan.

UnitedHealthcare recently donated seven laptop computers to HYPE Recreation Center in Dearborn to increase computer and Internet access in the community. The donation is part of 35 computers the company is donating to community organizations across the state.

The donation will help establish a computer lab that will be available to youth and families who use HYPE’s free in-school and after-school social services, including tutoring and adults looking for work.

“Thanks to UnitedHealthcare, our students will have a better opportunity to achieve academically,” said Ali Sayed, CEO and founder of HYPE Recreation Center.

“Our center now has the technological resources to enhance our current education programs and implement new classes. We sincerely thank UnitedHealthcare for this computer donation,” added Chris Pappas, HYPE’s social service director.

Other organizations receiving computers from UnitedHealthcare include First Step in Wayne County; Centro Multicultural La Familia in Pontiac; and Latino Family Services in Detroit.

Community-based organizations continue to express the need to connect technology with the people they serve. In response, UnitedHealthcare launched the Community Computers program to help create computer labs that give underserved people convenient access to the Internet. To date, UnitedHealthcare has donated more than 2,000 computers in 15 states, including Michigan, since the program began in 2012.

“The Community Computers program is designed to increase computer and Internet access in neighborhoods where access to these tools may be limited,” said Dennis Mouras, CEO of UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Michigan. “We are grateful for the opportunity to help people in our communities gain access to critical information and resources through these laptops.”
