Vandals Cause Thousands Of Dollars Of Damage At Dearborn Hills: Police

Investigators said they have identified one of the suspected vandals and are looking for him, but need helping identifying the others.

DEARBORN, MI — Police are looking for a group of vandals who damaged the grounds and equipment of a Dearborn golf course Friday.

Officials said surveillance cameras caught five people entering the Dearborn Hills Golf Course on Telegraph Road near Michigan Avenue at 1 a.m.

The group then tampered with several golf carts, before speeding on the course in the carts and doing donuts on the greens, damaging them, police said.

Officials estimate the vandals caused several thousand dollars in damage to the course and the golf carts, police said.

"We take pride in maintaining our public parks, facilities and greenspaces, not only for Dearborn residents but for those who choose to visit our city," Dearborn Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud said. "I am disheartened by this attempt to damage the historic grounds of Dearborn Hills, which is known to be the oldest public golf course in our state."

"These individuals’ careless actions not only harmed City property and a historic public course, it undid the hours of hard work and care that goes into maintaining our shared public spaces," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said. "We ask the community to please reach out with any information that can help us locate and hold accountable any individuals involved in this incident."
