Wayne Sheriff's Corporal Threatened with Gun; 4 in Custody

Motorist pointed gun at officer on Lodge Freeway, and then again after exiting vehicle, Wayne County Sheriff's Office said.

DETROIT, MI – Four people were taken into custody around midnight after a motorist on the Lodge Freeway “pointed a handgun in a threatening manner” at a police officer beginning his overnight shift, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

The incident occurred about 11:55 p.m. Thursday in the northbound lane of the Freeway near the Forest exit, according to a news release.

The officer, a corporal with the sheriff’s office, contacted Wayne County dispatch and followed the Dodge Journey as it exited at Forest.

At that point, “the driver jumped out of the car with the gun to confront the corporal, who identified himself and ordered the subject to drop the weapon,” according to the release.

The suspect complied, and Wayne State University police arrived on the scene and took the driver and three other passengers into custody, according to the release.

No one was injured, and Wayne State University is handling the investigation.
