Woman Dies In Garden City Crash After Shots Were Fired: Police

The driver of a Dodge Ram was exchanging gunfire with another driver before smashing into a sedan and killing its driver, police said.

GARDEN CITY, MI — A woman was killed Thursday evening in Garden City after a speeding truck exchanging gunfire with an SUV crashed into her car, Garden City Police said.

Police said a Dodge Ram and an SUV began speeding and driving erratically at Middlebelt and Cherry Hills roads at 6:26 p.m. in Garden City.

The drivers of the two vehicles began firing shots at each other before the Ram smashed into a blue sedan at the intersection of Middlebelt and Maplewood roads, sending the innocent woman in the sedan to the hospital where she later died, police said.

The driver of the Dodge Ram initially ran away from the scene, but was later found and arrested by police, officials said. Police were still looking for the driver of the SUV.

Witnesses told WDIV they heard at least six to ten gunshots before the crash.

Police were still investigating the crash to determine a motive for the shooting, but said a preliminary review indicates it was some kind of road rage.
