15 MI Companies Make Forbes List Of Best Midsize Employers

Forbes released its annual rankings of the best employers in America for 2018. See what Michigan companies made the list.

Forbes has released its annual rankings of best employers in the country and 15 Michigan companies made the list. Overall, book publisher Penguin Random House is the best midsize employer for 2018 in America, according to the list, and he shoe and clothing company New Balance, along with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, L.L. Bean and TripAdvisor all made the top 10.

The highest ranked Michigan company on the list is Haworth (No. 89), which is a packaged goods company headquartered in Holland. Three cities had two top-ranked employers in them: Ann Arbor, Lansing and Zeeland. Only two Metro Detroit companies made the list, based in Sterling Heights and Livonia.

Forbes partnered with market research company Statista to compile the list. Statista surveyed 30,000 people, asking respondents to rate how likely they’d be to recommend their employer to others, Forbes explains. Respondents were also asked to nominate organizations outside of their own, according to Forbes.

Penguin Random House jumped 32 spots to claim the No. 1 ranking on the list. Forbes says an entrepreneurial spirit shapes the employee experience at the company, playing a big role in recruiting as well as retention.
