2 Kids, 2 Teens Injured In Detroit Shooting: Police

The shooting happened after two women got into a physical fight at a Detroit park Wednesday night, according to police.

DETROIT — Two kids and two teens were injured in a Wednesday night shooting at a park on Detroit's west side, according to police.

Two 18-year-old women were taken to nearby hospitals where they were listed in critical condition, while the children, ages 6 and 3 were listed in stable condition at a nearby hospital, according to police.

Detroit Police Chief James White said two women got into a confrontation that turned into a physical fight around 9 p.m. at a park near Faust Avenue and Cathedral Street, near Cody High School.

One of the women shot was involved in the fight, while the other was not, according to police.

One of the women shot was also pregnant, according to police.

The two kids who were shot are not related to the adults involved in the fight and were just enjoying an evening in the park, according to police.

The children's parents were with them at the hospital, but it's unclear who was with the kids at the time of the shooting, according to police.

The shooter and the woman who called him to the park then ran away after the shooting, according to police.

Police did not release a description of the suspects, other than they believe they are both 18-years-old. Police do not know what led to the confrontation between the women at the park.

"It's frustrating. We have to keep our kids safe. I've said it many times. Coward with a gun decided to bring it and hurt children," White said. "I mean, it's awful, and we're going to do everything we can to get them off the street. All night if it takes that, but it's ridiculous."

No other details were released.

Police were still investigating the shooting.
