249K Still Without Power Across Metro Detroit As Storms Continue

More than 249,000 DTE Energy customers were still without power Friday morning as more storms move into the area.

DTE Energy officials said more than 3,400 linemen, including more than 1,500 from out of state, are working to restore power to those affected customers.

Crews restored power to roughly 75,000 people overnight and hope to restore 65 percent of customers by the end of Friday. They're targeting 90 percent of those affected by the end of Saturday.

The first round of storms hit the area late Wednesday night, leaving more than 100,000 people in the region without power.

Another round of thunderstorms hit the region on Thursday with winds exceeding 70 miles per hour in some areas, pushing the power outages to over 300,000 across the area.

Forecasters were surveying possible tornado damage on Detroit's east side.

More thunderstorms are possible across the region Friday. Those storms will also be capable of winds up to 70 miles per hour.

DTE officials warned people to stay at least 25 feet from any downed power lines. They said you should always assume any downed power line is live and dangerous.
