$2M Mega Millions Ticket Sold In MI, Jackpot Swells To $1.55B

MICHIGAN — The Mega Millions jackpot soared to a possible record-breaking $1.55 billion after no one won Friday's top prize of $1.35 billion. While no big winner came from Friday's drawing, a ticket worth $2 million was sold in Michigan, according to lottery officials.

The numbers drawn late Friday were 11, 30, 45, 52 and 56. The gold Mega Ball was 20. The winning Michigan ticket matched all five white balls plus the optional Megaplier, making it worth $2 million, according to the Mega Millions website.

In Michigan, the winning ticket was sold online, according to the Michigan Lottery website.

Other big winners included a $2 million ticket sold in Tennessee and $1 million tickets — meaning they matched all five white balls without the Megaplier option — sold in Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.

Across the country, 128 tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball to win the third-tier prize. Twenty-four of those tickets were worth $20,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier. The other 104 won $10,000 each.

There now have been 31 straight drawings without a jackpot winner. The last time someone won the Mega Millions jackpot was April 18.

The $1.55 billion prize would be for a sole winner who chooses the annuity option with payment stretched over 30 years. Most winners opt for a lump-sum payment, which would be an estimated $757.2 million on Tuesday.

A big slice of those winnings would go toward federal taxes, while many states also tax lottery payouts.

The jackpot is so hard to win because of the 1 in 302.6 million odds of matching the numbers on five white balls and a separate mega ball. The odds are better to win smaller prizes, which start at $2.

Drawings are held at 11 p.m. ET on Tuesdays and Fridays.
