​A couple inches of snow is possible across the Detroit area Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A couple inches of snow is possible across the Detroit area Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of the accumulating snow will fall between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, with additional lake effect snow showers into the evening hours, the weather service said.

Forecasters expect most of the region will see 1 to 3 inches of fresh snow, while some areas along and north of M-59 could see up to 4 inches.

Scattered lake effect snow showers are possible Saturday and Sunday when an arctic blast moves into the region. Forecasters said wind chills readings will below zero next Monday through Wednesday, with readings as low as -15 degrees overnight Monday.
