70K Without Power In Metro Detroit: DTE Energy

More than 70,000 DTE customers in metro Detroit were without power Monday morning after a round of severe thunderstorms Sunday evening.

METRO DETROIT — More than 70,000 DTE customers in metro Detroit were without power Monday morning after severe thunderstorms rolled through the area Sunday evening.

Some of the hardest hit areas included Ann Arbor, Royal Oak, St. Clair Shores, Taylor and West Bloomfield, according to the utility. DTE Energy said it has 1,232 crews are currently out in the field.

"Severe weather has hit Southeast Michigan. DTE’s Storm Response Teams are preparing to restore power to impacted customers as soon as conditions are safe. Report any outage or downed power line," the utility said.

The primary cause of the power outages were damaging winds reaching between 60 and 70 miles per hour Sunday evening as severe thunderstorms moved across metro Detroit, the utility said.

The severe weather forced the Livonia Spree to send festival goers home and cancel the fireworks planned for Sunday night.
