Teen Rescued From Burning Pickup Truck After Detroit Crash, Then Arrested: Police

The teen suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to police.

DETROIT — A 15-year-old was arrested after crashing a stolen pickup truck Monday morning in Detroit, according to Michigan State Police.

Officers tried to stop the stolen pickup truck at 5 a.m. Monday in the area of Outer Drive and Schoolcraft, but the driver sped away and ran a red light, according to police.

The officers did not pursue the pickup, as per departmental policy, according to police.

Moments later, officers responded to a crash in the area involving the stolen pickup, according to police.

Police said the pickup smashed into another car and burst into flames.

Officers pulled the teen from the burning truck and took him to a nearby hospital with a minor head injury, according to police.

Police did not report any other injuries in the crash.

Police then arrested the teen at the hospital and charged him with possession of a stolen car and failing to stop for police.

The teen was then released to his mom as the charges moved through the prosecutor's office.
