Longtime Detroit Radio Host Leaving Rock Station

DETROIT — A longtime voice at one of Detroit's premier classic rock stations has signed off.

Jim O'Brien posted to Instagram Friday that he is leaving WCSX-FM (94.7) after 24 years.

"After an incredible run at WCSX, my time with the station has come to an end," he said in a note posted to Instagram. "I'm grateful to the listeners, teammates, clients, veterans, and the Detroit community who allowed me to be part of their mornings for so many years."

Bob Seger's "Shinin' Brightly," specifically the chorus: "The dark clouds are rollin' away, and it's shinin' brightly/ I think it's gonna be OK," was playing in the background on the post.

O'Brien joined the station in 2002 and became the host of the station's "Big Jim’s House" morning show, which started in 2014.

Though he's leaving the station, he added that he's "not going anywhere."

O'Brien said he'll still be the track announcer for the Detroit Grand Prix and remain on the board of directors for Disaster Relief at Work (DRAW), which is a locally based non-profit organization.

"I'm excited for what's next, and I look forward to staying connected with all of you," he said.
