BERKLEY, MI — Two men are facing charges in connection with the 2022 fatal shooting of an Oakland County teen, according to prosecutors.
Janiya Brown, 15, was found shot dead on May 11, 2022, in an alley near Joy Road and Livernois, according to prosecutors.
DeShawn McGilary, 23, and Andrew Walker, 22, both of Detroit, were each charged with first-degree murder and felony firearm.
They were both placed in jail and denied bond. Their next court date is scheduled for June 12.
Prosecutors said Walker assaulted Brown before he and McGilary shot her multiple times. Her body was found outside a Chevy Malibu that prosecutors said was connected to a carjacking days earlier.
Brown, who was from the Cleveland area, was staying with her aunt in Berkley. She was reported missing from the home for three weeks before her body was found, prosecutors said.
