4 Hurt, Multiple People Rescued In Detroit Apartment Fire

DETROIT — Four people were injured and multiple others were rescued from a Detroit apartment fire Monday morning, a spokesperson told Patch.

The fire happened at 7:41 a.m. Monday at the Galston Apartments, located in the 4300 block of Cicotee Street, the official said.

Firefighters arrived and found several people near windows as smoke and flames poured from the building, the official said.

One man jumped from a third-story window and was taken to Henry Ford Hospital for injuries, the official said.

Another man suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital, the official said.

Two other men were checked on the scene and refused further medical treatment, the official said.

No other details were released about victims.

Firefighters rescued other residents from the building using ladders, the official said.

Fire officials were still trying to determine the cause of the fire.

The apartment owner told officials 28 units were occupied and was working with the city and Red Cross to relocate residents. Homeland Security and Emergency Management is leading that effort.

Detroit Department of Transportation brought in buses to help keep people out of the sun.
