2 Dozen Detroit Families Displaced After Apartment Fire

DETROIT — Two dozen Detroit families were relocated Monday after an apartment fire, a Homeland Security and Emergency Management spokesperson told Patch.

The fire happened at 7:41 a.m. Monday at the Galston Apartments, located in the 4300 block of Cicotee Street, officials said.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, which left four people injured, including a man who jumped from a third-story window, officials said.

The official said 15 families were moved to a temporary shelter at Patton Recreation Center, while nine other families decided to go with family and friends.

The Patton Recreation Center will provide cots and food with additional resources from the Salvation Army.

If the temporary shelter needs to be extended, the city and property management will provide assistance on getting extended temporary housing. This will be re-evaluated throughout the process.

There is no timetable for when the families will be able to return to their homes.

The Fire Marshal and BSEED will inspect the building and determine when the families can move back to the building.
