Detroit Man Charged After Burning Raccoon Alive: Prosecutor

DETROIT — A Detroit man has been charged after burning a raccoon alive and posting a video of the incident online, according to prosecutors.

Henry Bernard Montgomery, 38, was charged with third-degree animal killing or torturing. He was placed in jail with a $20,000 bond and a GPS tether. His next court date is scheduled for July 1.

The incident happened on June 17 at a home in the 12000 block of Washburn Street in Detroit where prosecutors said Montgomery burned a raccoon.

He then posted a video on social media of the animal being burned alive, prosecutors said.

"It is hard for one to imagine what kind of preverse pleasure was being had here by the defendant's alleged conduct. I would say that this this case has unbelievable facts, but unfortunately that would not be a true statement. I should be surprised but I am not," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.
