Scattered thunderstorms are possible across metro Detroit on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters expect the storms to move into the area sometime during the afternoon hours when highs climb toward 80 degrees.
They do not expect widespread severe weather, but warned the storms could be strong with heavy downpours and winds reaching up to 60 miles per hour.
Highs will stay in the 70s with plenty of sunshine Friday before another chance of rain during the overnight hours, according to NWS.
The comfortable temperatures will hang around through the weekend with sunny skies, according to NWS.
Temperatures then soar into the 90s to begin next week. The hot and humid weather with heat indices exceeding 100 degrees will continue through at least the first half of next week, according to NWS.
Periods of showers and thunderstorms will be possible through the heat wave, according to NWS.
