Dangerous heat and humidity is expected across the Detroit area this week, according to the National Weather Service.
Highs will reach the low 90s Monday with heat indices close to 100 degrees, according to NWS.
Temperatures will be even hotter Tuesday afternoon when an extreme heat watch goes into effect for the area.
Highs Tuesday could hit 100 degrees with heat indices reaching 105 degrees across the area, according to NWS.
The extreme heat watch will stay in effect through Thursday as real feel temperatures will stay over 100 degrees across the area, according to NWS.
Thunderstorms then move into the region Friday and through the holiday weekend with highs in the 90s, according to NWS.
Heat Safety
The weather service advises staying indoors in air conditioning whenever possible during a heat wave. You should also remain hydrated by drinking water, and you should check on those most vulnerable to heat, including children and seniors.
If you have to go outside, "go early or late in the day, and dress in light-colored clothing," the weather service said.
