DETROIT — Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold has been released by the team amid accusations that he orchestrated the abduction and beating of three men he wrongly suspected of stealing from him, the Associated Press reported.
Arnold, who was charged in connection with a Florida kidnapping and robbery, was given a $1 million bond on Monday, according to news reports.
Arnold, 26, was charged with four counts each of kidnapping and armed robbery. He turned himself in to police last Wednesday and was placed in the Orient Road Jail in Tampa, according to prosecutors.
A trial date has not yet been scheduled. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
If Arnold posts bond, he will be confined to his home. He would have also had leave to practice and play for the Lions.
Arnold and multiple others lured three men to an apartment on Feb. 4 in the Tampa area where the men were beaten and robbed at gunpoint, according to prosecutors.
The attack was retaliation after more than $200,000 worth of Arnold's personal items were stolen from an Airbnb property that he rented in the area, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors said Arnold coordinated the attack in a group chat just hours after Arnold reported the stolen items to police.
Ultimately, investigators found no evidence connecting the victims to the Airbnb property theft, according to prosecutors.
Six others were also arrested in connection with the incident, including two who have pleaded guilty to their roles in the crime.
