DETROIT — A teen has been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured a 5-year-old Detroit boy while he was riding his bike Tuesday, according to a WDIV report.
Detroit police Chief Todd Bettison said the community played a key role in helping investigators quickly identify the 15-year-old boy, who was placed at the Juvenile Detention Facility, according to the report.
The shooting happened at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday near the Fargo-Oakfield Playground in the area of Lindsay Street and Trojan Avenue, according to police.
Investigators believe the teen was randomly firing shots in the air when a stray bullet struck the 5-year-old boy in the arm.
The boy's father was watching his young son riding his bike outside his home when he heard the shots and saw him fall from his bike, according to police.
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he is expected to be ok, according to police.
Bettison said the child is recovering and remains upbeat with his family.
