Two metro Detroit breweries have said goodbye while another is pouring its first drinks.
Cadillac Straits Brewing Company in Madison Heights is winding down business. They had their farewell party last Saturday and will only be open through the rest of the month with sporadic hours.
"As we round out seven years of serving Madison Heights, we've made the difficult decision to close Cadillac Straits Brewing Company and the Supply House at Cadillac Straits," staff said in a statement posted to Facebook. "This was not a decision we made lightly. The current market conditions (combined with opening right before the pandemic) have led us to a place where continuing operations is no longer sustainable. Despite our best efforts, we couldn't make it work."
Another Oakland County brewery announced they will also be closing down soon.
Heights Brewing, located in downtown Farmington, said they will be closing their doors for good on Aug. 2.
"This wasn't a decision we made lightly. Between the rising cost of goods, loan payments that kept moving in the wrong direction, and a few challenges we never saw coming, we've reached a point where we simply can't continue," staff said in a statement posted to Facebook.
The owners went on to thank the community.
"One of the greatest joys of owning Heights Brewing was watching someone's face light up when they realized they could order anything on the menu — no questions, no worry, no fine print," they said in the post. "Seeing families, friends and first-time guests finally feel safe dining out meant the world to us."
While those breweries are closing, Cabin North Brewing Company recently opened a spot near Detroit's Midtown neighborhood.
Cabin North is located at 1314 Holden, Suite A, near the Lodge Freeway and West Grand Boulevard.
The bar has eight beers on tap, including New England Style IPAs. Seltzers and non-alcoholic options are also available at the bar.
