The shooting happened around 5 p.m. at a home in the 18000 block of Bretton Street in Detroit, according to police.

Commanding officer of the department's 8th Precinct Dietrich Lever told reporters the 13-year-old shot his dad after a "disciplinary dispute" between them.

The teen then fled the home in a gray 2026 Rivian with the family dog, a French mastiff, Lever said.

The father was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but his exact condition was unknown, according to police.

The dog was found safe during the arrest, police said.

Prior to the arrest, police considered the teen armed and dangerous and urged anyone who spotted him not to approach.

No other details were released as police continue investigating the incident.
