Firefighters arrived and encountered heavy smoke and flames from the building, according to fire officials, who said multiple people were trapped inside the burning building.

"Crews on scene faced extremely difficult conditions and challenges that made both fire suppression and life safety measures incredibly difficult," Redford Twp Firefighters - IAFF Local 1206 said.

Two people were able to escape the burning home, but firefighters found three dead during search and suppression operations, according to fire officials.

It was unclear what caused the fire.

Officials did not identify any of the victims and did not release any other details.
