Today's riddle: What is full of holes but still holds water? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Teen Girl Fatally Stabs Boyfriend In Detroit: Police (patch.com) — Detroit police say a man in his 20s died after being stabbed during an argument with a 17-year-old girl inside a home near Marx and Grixdale streets. Neighbors described seeing the wounded man collapse on the grass and trying to help before paramedics arrived. The teen was arrested, and police report there is no ongoing danger to the community as the investigation continues.
2. Displaced Leland residents fear Detroit is taking money meant to compensate them (metrotimes.com) — Former residents of downtown Detroit's historic Leland House are fighting the city over more than $723,000 from the bankrupt building's sale, money they say should help compensate them for lost homes and belongings. As mediation begins, the Detroit Tenants Union argues the city's claim could sharply reduce what displaced tenants receive, even after a $3 million sale left the building still uninhabitable.
3. After 4 spinal surgeries, Detroit man's home saved through property tax relief program (clickondetroit.com) — Detroit homeowners facing property tax debt can still save their houses through the renewed PAYS and HOPE programs, which have already helped more than 18,000 Detroiters avoid foreclosure. City and Wayne County officials say eligible residents may see tax balances slashed and, in many Detroit cases, fully paid off by the Gilbert Family Foundation, but applications are time-sensitive.
4. Cathedral's SON Fund brightens the situation for people in need (detroitcatholic.com) — At Detroit's Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, volunteers use the SON (Serving Our Neighbor) Fund to help residents cover urgent one-time expenses like utility shutoff notices, rent deposits, and car repairs. Seeded by an anonymous donor, the fund has already distributed more than $32,000, and parishioners are being asked to keep it going so more Detroit neighbors can stay housed and safe.
5. Job Details for Shared Law Clerk (Temporary) (uscourts.gov) — A new temporary shared law clerk position is opening with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, based in Detroit, starting October 5, 2026. Detroit-area legal professionals can apply now for this one-year federal role, which offers a competitive JSP 11–13 salary range and will remain open until filled.
