The chief insists the criminal investigation into alleged threats began earlier and is unrelated, while Sheffield denies misusing city resources or funds and says she remains focused on serving Detroit residents.
• Garden Bowl on Woodward celebrates 80 years of business (fox2detroit.com) — Midtown Detroit's historic Garden Bowl on Woodward is marking 80 years of Zainea family ownership while continuing to serve as a go-to spot for bowling, pizza, and live music. The alley, considered the nation's oldest continuously operating commercial bowling alley, is celebrating by supporting 80 local charities this year, including offering free bowling to some groups.
• This lawyer is stepping up as legal star Fieger continues stroke rehab (detroitnews.com) — A longtime protégé of famed trial lawyer Geoffrey Fieger is now leading the Metro Detroit-based Fieger Law firm while Fieger continues stroke rehabilitation, keeping the high-profile practice active in local and national cases. The new CEO, James Harrington, says the Southfield firm is growing, adding staff and continuing major civil-rights and wrongful-death work, including cases involving Detroit police.
