DETROIT — Detroit Police Chief James White said Thursday that investigators "expect to have an announcement soon" in connection to the killing of a well-known Detroit neurosurgeon.

"We are confident that we should be able to bring some closure to this family very, very soon," White said.

Officers found 53-year-old Devon Hoover's body wrapped in a sheet in the attic of his Boston-Edison neighborhood home with multiple gunshot wounds to the head on April 23, police said.

An autopsy showed Hoover was first shot behind his right ear and then in the back of his head, before he was dragged in a comforter, sheet and a rug and stuffed in the crawlspace, where officers found the body on April 23, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner.

A person-of-interest was arrested in connection to the shooting, but was later released on May 2.

Officials are offering a $1,000 reward for tips in connection to the shooting death of a beloved Detroit neurosurgeon.

Police still have not released a motive for the shooting, and few details have been released in the slaying, other than they believe Hoover knew his killer and the attack was not random.

White did not say what details may be shared in the possible announcement, but he did say investigators were working closely with the prosecutor’s office, and that they had a "significant to-do list" that is "just about complete."

Hoover was a certified neurosurgeon at Ascension St. John and specialized in neck and back disorders.

"We, the family of Devon Hoover, wish to express our profound sadness at the loss of a beloved son, brother, and uncle," Hoover's family said in a statement. "We grieve his untimely death and will miss him greatly. We are so grateful for the many words of kindness and stories from people who were touched by his life. He was a gift from God and used his talents to bless many."
