DETROIT — President Joe Biden will visit Detroit this week amid pressuring calls from his party to step aside in the 2024 presidential race, according to campaign officials.

The trip will be the president's fourth visit this year to Michigan, which is expected to be a pivotal state in the upcoming race. Biden narrowly defeated former President Donald Trump by roughly 154,000 in Michigan four years ago.

Biden's trip to Detroit also comes as many Democrats are calling on the president to step aside after a shaky debate performance against Republican front-runner Donald Trump.
During the debate, Biden gave a handful of unenthusiastic and confusing answers, including at one point saying, "We finally beat Medicare."

A Politico report said Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer warned Democrats that Biden had lost Michigan after he stumbled through the debate. Whitmer, however, refuted that story and has said she supports Biden's re-election campaign 100 percent.
Biden, 81, has not indicated that he's considering dropping out of the race.
Moreover, Biden told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” show on Monday that "average Democrats" want him to stay in the race. He also said that he's frustrated by the calls from party officials for him to step aside.
