Big Data Scientists, Technology Demand Strong in 2017: 25 Jobs in Metro Detroit

Big data and technology positions expected to continue strong growth in 2017, some with the potential for base salaries near $200,000.

Big data expertise will continue to be in high demand in 2017, according to new salary benchmarks released by one of the nation’s top search and job placement firms. Robert Half Technology said technology salaries have seen strong growth for the past several years, and the trend will continue in 2017.

The strongest salary growth will be in security, web development and software development, according to the 2017 Technology and IT Salary Guide. Several specialties have the potential for six-figure base salaries.

Here are some highlights from the forecast:

  • Data scientist salaries are expected to range from $116,000 to $163,500 in 2017, a 6.4 percent increase over 2016 salary levels.
  • Big data engineer salaries could range from $135,000 to $196,000, another big jump — 5.8 percent — over 2016.
  • Network security engineers are expected to range from $115,000 to $162,000 in 2017, an increase of 5.7 percent over 2016 salary levels.
