Blowing Snow Causes Multiple Crashes On I-94 In West MI: Police

Several sections of the freeway were closed down Friday morning after several crashes, including a pile up of nine semi trucks, police said.

MICHIGAN — Blizzard conditions in west Michigan are to blame for numerous Friday morning crashes on Interstate 94, including a crash involving nine semi trucks, according to Michigan State Police.

Social media video showed nine semi trucks piled up on eastbound Interstate 94 near the mile marker 41 in Berrien County with snow rapidly blowing across the freeway. Police said there were no serious injuries in the crash.

A state trooper's police cruiser was also struck seven miles farther east on the freeway at mile marker 48 in Van Buren County, police said. Officials said the trooper was not injured in the crash.

A jackknifed semi truck was blocking multiple lanes on westbound Interstate 94 near mile marker 88 in Kalamazoo County, police said.

There were also multiple traffic delays and crashes in the metro Detroit area Friday morning, including a jackknifed semi truck that was blocking westbound Interstate 96 in Redford, according to police.
