DETROIT — A 7-year-old boy was shot in the head while sleeping in his Detroit home Monday morning, according to police.
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in stable condition, but might need surgery to remove the bullet, which was lodged in his head, according to police.
The shooting happened at 5 a.m. at a home on the 16500 block of Fairmount Drive, which is near the intersection of 8 Mile and Kelly roads.

Police said at least one shooter opened fire into the home where 11 people were inside, including eight children.
Police believe the shooting might be related to a conflict between the shooters and an adult who was inside the home.

"Extremely cowardice act to shoot into a home with that many children inside," Detroit Police Chief James White told reporters.
The shooters fled the area in a vehicle, which police were still trying to determine the make, model and color of the car.
Police do not know if the shooting was gang-related, but White said they’re confident it has to do with a conflict between adults.
The 7-year-old boy was struck while he was sleeping in the front of the house, according to police.
"These kids have absolutely nothing to do with adult conflict," White told reporters. "Kid’s sleeping and was shot in his home, where he should be safe. I don’t know how that’s tough. I don’t know how that makes sense to anybody who calls themself an adult."
