Brilliant Detroit received a delivery of 48,000 diapers to be supplied to pregnant women and new moms in Detroit, a vulnerable population whose needs aren’t being met sufficiently during the COVID-19 pandemic. The donation of this critical item was made possible by Baby2Baby.

“We’ve been working around the clock to ensure our families have the information, resources and support services, as well as basic necessities they need to provide for themselves and their children,” said Cindy Eggleton, co-founder and CEO of Brilliant Detroit, a nonprofit organization whose eight community hubs located across the city of Detroit remain closed for educational programming. “The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the tears in the U.S. safety net and stretched our families even further to meet just their basic needs. It has also shown what good can happen when people come together for the success of our children and communities.”

Brilliant Detroit’s greatest need since the beginning of the Gov. Whitmer’s stay-at-home order – and even today – has been getting supplies for pregnant women and newborn babies. Like Baby2Baby, Brilliant Detroit has been flooded with countless requests for infant critical care items, such as diapers and formula.

Baby2Baby’s donation of diapers is the first to Brilliant Detroit for the national nonprofit organization, which provides children living in poverty, ages 0-12 years, with diapers, clothing and all the basic necessities every child deserves. Since the beginning of this pandemic, Baby2Baby already has distributed more than 15 million essential items to families nationwide impacted by COVID-19.

“We are forever grateful to Baby2Baby for helping many of our community’s families during this challenging time,” added Eggleton. “It is so important that resources are being mobilized in Detroit to help families with young children have access to everything they need to not only survive, but to thrive.”

In addition to providing supplies to Detroit families weekly, Brilliant Detroit has been distributing baby bundles to pregnant moms and moms with children up to 12-months. Distribution takes place weekly and safely outside all eight Brilliant Detroit neighborhood hubs regularly. Safety guidelines for physically distancing are followed at all times.

Brilliant Detroit is always in need of supplies for “Brilliant Baby” deliveries to moms. Items on its wish list include formula, baby food, baby wipes, diaper cream, newborn clothes, sleepers 0-12 months, onesies, receiving blankets, carriers, bibs, bottles and nipple cleaning brushes, nasal bulb aspirators, manual breast pumps, breast pads, prenatal vitamins and cleansing items, such as shampoo and body wash.
