Brrr, Metro Detroit: Winter, and Perhaps Snow, Blows in for the Weekend

Temperatures will take a dive Saturday and there's a chance of snow, but Metro Detroit isn't in the path of a major blizzard.

METRO DETROIT, MI — About Friday’s forecast high around 70: You know it’s too good to last, right? Break out the hats, scarves and mittens. It’s going to feel like November this weekend, and overnight lows could fall into the 20s Sunday night.

Will it snow? There’s a chance of a rain-snow mix overnight Saturday, but it doesn’t look like Metro Detroit will be affected by the big winter storm that could dump a foot of snow on parts of Minnesota. Some areas of western Michigan could get a dusting.

Even without the snow, it’s going to feel like winter. Here’s a look at what’s ahead:

Friday night: Increasing clouds and a 60 percent chance of showers, with a low around 42; south wind 14 to 16 mph becoming west southwest after midnight; winds could gust as high as 24 mph.

Saturday: Continued cloudy, with a 50 percent chance of showers; temperature falling to around 37 by 5 p.m.; breezy with a west southwest wind 17 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Saturday night: A 40 percent chance of rain and snow showers before 1 a.m.; cloudy, with a low around 30; blustery, with a west northwest wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 37; breezy, with a northwest wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Sunday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 26.
