Christmas Eve, Christmas Day 2016 Metro Detroit Grocery, Retail Store Hours

METRO DETROIT, MI — We all know that frustration of forgetting a key ingredient for your Christmas Eve supper or Christmas Day meal. Not to worry, several grocery stores will be open on Christmas Eve, though you’ll probably have to settle for a convenience store if you forget something for the Christmas Day meal.

If you’re a procrastinator or were waiting for a holiday bonus, several stores — including Target and Toys R Us, will remain open until 10 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve, respectively. Walmart said in a news release that it is closing its stores two hours earlier on Christmas Eve than in previous years, so get your shopping done there by 6 p.m.

Many regional grocery stores will close early on Saturday, Christmas Eve, and remain closed Christmas Day before opening for regular hours on Monday, Dec. 26. If your favorite store isn’t on the list, call ahead before making a trip out.

Here’s a list of holiday hours for several stores, taken from their websites and the Holiday Shopping Hours website:

7-Eleven: All stores open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day; several operate 24 hours a day.

Busch’s Fresh Food Market: Stores open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas Day.

Hollywood Markets: Stores open from 7 a.m-5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas Day.

Meijer stores, gas stations and pharmacies: Stores close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and reopen at 6 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 26 to resume regular hours.

Kroger stores: Most stores are open until 6 p.m. on Dec. 24; all stores closed on Christmas, Dec. 25. Pharmacy hours vary.

Save-A-Lot: Christmas Eve store hours may vary by location; all stores closed on Christmas Day.

Best Buy: Open 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Christmas Eve, closed Christmas Day.

Costco: Stores open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve; all stores closed on Christmas.

Kohl's: Closing at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas Day.

Target: Most stores are open from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. on Christmas Eve; all stores closed on Christmas Day.

Toys R Us: Closing at 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve; all stores closed on Christmas.

Walmart: Stores close at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve; all stores closed on Christmas Day.

Whole Foods Market: Stores will close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve; all stores are closed on Christmas.
