Christmas Weekend Weather Forecast: Time Travel Plans to Avoid Snow
Holiday travelers may have to contend with some fog and rain, but temperatures should remain above freezing.
METRO DETROIT, MI — Several southeast Michigan counties are under a winter weather advisory Friday as a weak system moving through the area carries the potential for a couple of inches of snow. But the snow should clear in time for holiday travel Saturday, and Christmas Day looks to be precipitation-free, according to the National Weather Service.
On Friday night, though, Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, Genesee, Livingston and Washtenaw counties could get 1 to 2 inches of heavy wet snow, especially north of the M-59 corridor. Other counties under the advisory are Midland, Bay, Huron, Saginaw, Tuscola, Sanilac, Shiawassee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Lenawee and Monroe.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37; south-southwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Friday night: A 70 percent chance of rain, snow and sleet before 1 a.m., then rain and snow likely between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., and rain, snow and sleet likely after 3 a.m.; cloudy, with a low around 32; south wind 6 to 9 mph.
Saturday, Christmas Eve: A continued 70 percent chance of snow, rain and sleet likely before 7 a.m., then rain and snow likely between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. before gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 38; west wind 6-8mph. Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28; west wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.

Sunday, Christmas Day: Areas of fog after 1 p.m., otherwise mostly cloudy, with a high near 37; east-northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Sunday night: Areas of fog before 8 p.m., and a 50 percent chance of rain after 8 p.m.; otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 35.
Monday: An 80 percent chance of rain, mainly between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.; high near 49. Monday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28.
