Training, team building and fundraising start today for the legendary local event, the Fight For Air Climb in Downtown Detroit. The American Lung Association in Michigan announced that registration is now open for the event, set for Sunday, March 1.

The Fight For Air Climb invites individuals, families, groups of friends, corporate teams and first responders to race up the stairs of one of two towers in downtown Detroit – Ally Detroit Center and One Woodward. Firefighters and first responders will climb up and down One Woodward (a total of 55 floors and 1,108 stairs), and elite climbers and all other participants will climb up and down Ally Detroit Center (a total of 82 floors, 1,740 steps). Several practice climbs are offered throughout the year to help people train for the event.

“The fall is the perfect time to start building your team, training and fundraising for the Fight For Air Climb. Stair climbing is a great way to stay active during the chilly Michigan winters, but also provides a fun activity for families, team building for corporate teams and a fundraising activity for students,” said Maureen Rovas, executive director of the Lung Association. “We encourage the whole community to get involved by participating, volunteering or simply donating to this important cause.”

In Michigan, more than 1.4 million people live with lung disease, and this year alone, more than 8,000 residents will be diagnosed with lung cancer. The Fight For Air Climb raises awareness for lung disease, raises money for life-saving research, and funds critical local programing like educational programs to help local children manage their asthma and free programs to help locals quit smoking.
