Cooler Temps Ahead Of Possible Thunderstorms: Metro Detroit Weather

METRO DETROIT — Temperatures in the metro Detroit area will fall by at least 10 degrees over the next two days before rain showers move in on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A day after reaching 80 degrees in the metro Detroit area, temperatures will barely hit 60 degrees in the region Wednesday and struggle to reach 70 degrees Thursday, the weather service said.

Overnight low temperatures will fall into the upper 30s, prompting the weather service to issue possible frost warnings in some metro Detroit areas.

Temperatures in the region will climb back up toward the 80s on Friday, bringing afternoon and evening rain showers, with possible rounds of thunder, the weather service said. Forecasters do not expect any severe weather.

Any overnight rain showers in the region should dissipate by Saturday morning, giving away to a fairly warm and sunny weekend, the weather service said.

Here's the NWS's extended forecast in the metro Detroit area:

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 58 degrees. Northeast wind 9 to 11 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 18 miles per hour.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 67 degrees. East southeast wind 5 to 8 miles per hour.

Friday: Rain likely, mainly after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 79 degrees. South southwest wind 13 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday: A chance of rain before 8 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 68 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78 degrees.
