Dangerously Cold Temps, More Snow: Metro Detroit Weather

Forecasters said the coldest air of the winter season so far will move into the metro Detroit area Thursday evening.

METRO DETROIT — An arctic blast will move into the metro Detroit area Thursday evening, pushing temperatures to as low as -15 degrees with light snow showers, according to the National Weather Service.

The light snow showers will cross the metro area Thursday evening between 8 and 11 p.m. as temperatures drop to the signal digits with minus zero wind chills, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters warned some snow bands could be heavy and reduce visibility, but they shouldn't last long, as little to no snow accumulation was expected.

Friday morning will be very cold in the metro area with temperatures in the single digits and wind chills reaching up to -15 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said flurries will hang around the metro area as temperatures will struggle to reach the teens throughout Friday.

Temperatures in the metro area will start to warm back up Saturday as highs will reach the 30s, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters said temperatures will continue warming into next week, where the metro area could see highs reaching the mid 40s.

Thursday: Isolated snow showers between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., then scattered flurries after 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 6 degrees. Wind chill values as low as -6 degrees. North northwest wind 13 to 16 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 25 miles per hour.

Friday: A chance of flurries. Mostly sunny, with a high near 13 degrees. Wind chill values as low as -9 degrees. Northwest wind 9 to 11 miles per hour.

Saturday: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 32 degrees. South southwest wind 10 to 17 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 26 miles per hour.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39 degrees. Breezy.

Monday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38 degrees.

Tuesday: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 46 degrees. Breezy.

Wednesday: A chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 43 degrees.
