Detroit Art Museum Picked As Nation's Best: USA TODAY

DETROIT — The Detroit Institute of Arts was named the best art museum to visit in 2023 by USA Today.

The Detroit-based museum beat out the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, the Getty Center in L.A. the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) in Maryland and others to earn the publication's top award.

"Housed within a Beaux Arts building, the Detroit Institute of Arts maintains a collection of some 65,000 works – among the largest and most comprehensive in the United States," USA Today said. "Visitors can explore human creativity from across the globe as they explore more than 100 galleries, including the Center for African American Art, one of the first collections devoted to African American art at a major museum."

The Detroit Institute of Arts said they were "beyond thrilled and honored" for the recognition.

"Thank you to everyone who voted for us and who supports our mission of inspiring and enriching people's lives through art," DIA officials said on social media. "We couldn't have achieved this recognition without your enthusiasm and love for the DIA."
