Detroit HS Football Coach Charged In Shooting Of Mom And Child: Prosecutor
The 33-year-old woman and her 7-year-old daughter are expected to be ok, according to police.
DETROIT — A Detroit man has been charged in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a woman and her 7-year-old daughter, according to prosecutors.
The shooting happened at 7 p.m. last Monday at an apartment complex on Farnsworth Street near Gratiot and E. Warren avenues in Detroit, according to prosecutors.
Officers responded to the apartment and found the 33-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm and the 7-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to prosecutors.

Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital where they were expected to survive, according to prosecutors.
Aaron Matthew Wright, 32, was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with the intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, two counts of discharging a firearm in or at a building, one count each of carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent and first-degree home invasion, as well as eight counts of felony firearm.

He was placed in jail with a $250,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 19.
If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison told reporters at the time the argument stemmed from a fight earlier in the day among multiple children between 7 and 8 years old.
After the fight, Bettison said a father, later identified as Wright, of one of the children confronted the woman at her apartment.
The two argued on the front porch of the home, before the woman tried to close the front door, Bettison said.
That's when Wright forced his way into the home and fired a shot, striking both the woman and her daughter, who was standing near her mother in the living room, according to police.
The bullet went through the woman's arm and hit her 7-year-old daughter in the chest, according to police.
The woman and her daughter were taken to a nearby hospital where they were stable and expected to be ok, according to police.
Wright fled the scene in a white GMC Terrain, but was arrested the next day, according to police.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said the shooting is "beyond outrageous."
"When in the world did it become okay for an adult to introduce a firearm into an argument between two young children," Worthy said. "The defendant we are charging today with 17 counts is an assistant football coach at a Detroit high school. Let that sink in. He decides, allegedly, to settle this dispute with his daughter by going to the home of the other child and shooting her and her mother. We will make sure that the only football games he is involved in the future is as a spectator watching it on a TV screen."
