Detroit Jazz Festival: Lineup, Parking, Street Closures
The 45th annual Detroit Jazz Festival will take over downtown Detroit this Labor Day weekend.
DETROIT — The 45th annual Detroit Jazz Festival will take over downtown Detroit this Labor Day weekend.
The free festival starts Friday in areas around Hart Plaza and Campus Martius Park, and runs through Monday night.
The main music stage will be in Campus Martius Park, while the amphitheater stage and the waterfront stage will be in Hart Plaza.

Lineup
The festival kicks off Friday evening at 6:40 p.m. with New Orleans drum master Herlin Riley with the Dr. Valade’s Brass Band at the amphitheater stage. Translinear Light will also perform before The Fellowship Band closes out the night.
All three stages will open Saturday with major names performing, such as The Bad Plus, Monty Alexander, and Christian McBride & Inside Straight.

Music starts at 10:45 a.m. Sunday with top performers, including Carmen Lundy, Chief Adjuah (formerly Christian Scott), Joshua Redman, the Michigan State University Jazz Orchestra 1, among others.
Music starts at 11:45 a.m. Monday and runs through 9 p.m. and featuring artist Pablo Ziegler Quintet along with Roberta Gambarini, a rare combination. Blade and The Fellowship Band will join the Detroit Jazz Festival Jazz Orchestra to close out the show.
Where To Park
There are many options to park in the downtown areas, including:
- Financial District Garage: 730 Shelby St.
- Greektown Garage: 1001 Brush St.
- One Detroit Center Garage: 200 Larned St.
- Two Detroit Garage: 160 E. Congress St.
Food and Drinks
Event officials strongly discourage guest from bringing their own food and drinks, as there will be an array of food trucks in the area. Guests cannot bring alcohol to the festival areas.
Street Closures
Many streets in the downtown area where the festival is taking place will be closed. Here are the closures:
Wednesday
- Northbound Woodward from Larned St. to Monroe St.
- Southbound and northbound Woodward between Campus Martius and State St./Gratiot Ave.
- Eastbound Monroe St. from Campus Martius to Farmer St.
- Both sides of Cadillac Square from Campus Martius to Bates St.
Thursday
- Southbound Woodward from Michigan Ave. to Larned St.
- Fort from Griswold St. to Woodward
- Westbound Monroe from Farmer St. to Campus Martius
- East and westbound Michigan Ave. between Griswold and Woodward
Friday
- Congress between Bates and Griswold
