Detroit Lyft Riders Among Highest Tippers In Country

DETROIT, MI — Detroiters are some of the biggest Lyft tippers in the county, according to new data collected by the ride-sharing company. The tips around the area have increased by 8 percent, CBS Detroit reported, thanks to the “generosity of Detroiters.”

Data shows drivers on Friday and Saturday night are more likely to receive a tip than any other time and weekend rates are much higher than weekdays. During the weekdays, it's commuters headed to work who reportedly give the highest tips.

The news comes as Lyft announces that drivers across the United States and in Ontario, Canada have earned over half a billion dollars in tips. More than half of all tips were given in 2017 alone. While it took four years to reach $100 million in tips, the last $100 million were given in just four months, a testament to the growth of the Lyft community.
