Detroit Man Charged In Killing Of Infant Daughter: Police

DETROIT — A Detroit man was charged in connection with the killing of his nine-month-old daughter last year, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Officers found nine-month-old Kinsley Evans suffering from a gunshot wound inside a home in the 12200 block of Schaefer Highway in Detroit at roughly 11:16 a.m. on June 26, 2023, prosecutors said.

Officials took the infant to a nearby hospital where she died, prosecutors said.

Charles Evans, 24, was charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse. His next court date is scheduled for March 27. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.

Investigators determined Evans shot the infant inside the home and arrested him in connection with the fatal shooting on Saturday, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said "more complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court."

"Baby Kinsley lived a very short life of pain. The alleged facts are unbelievably tragic in this case," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. "The injuries inflicted on this nine-month-old baby are too numerous to fathom."
