Detroit Man Kills Girlfriend, Shoots 3-Year-Old Son: Police

A Detroit man is facing charges after police said he fatally shot his girlfriend and injured their 3-year-old son, according to police.

DETROIT — A Detroit man is facing charges in connection with a shooting that left a 19-year-old woman dead and a 3-year-old boy wounded last Thursday, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Officers found 19-year-old Jevon Miller shot to death and a 3-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck at a Detroit home in the area of Whitcomb Street and Tireman Avenue at 6:44 a.m. last Thursday, according to the prosecutor's office.

The child was taken to a nearby hospital where he is still receiving treatment, according to the prosecutor's office.

Virgil Dan Brown, 22, was charged with first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, second-degree child abuse, carrying a concealed weapon and three felony firearm violations.

He was placed in jail and his next court date is scheduled for June 10. Bond information wasn't released.

Prosecutors said Brown was arguing with his girlfriend, Jevon Miller, inside the home last Thursday when Brown pulled out a handgun and shot Miller in the head. He then shot their 3-year-old son in the neck, according to the prosecutor's office.
