Detroit Mercy's Antoine Davis Falls Just Short Of NCAA Record
Davis fell just a few points shy of passing Pete Maravich's all-time men's Division I college basketball career scoring record.

DETROIT — Detroit Mercy's star basketball guard Antoine Davis fell just short of becoming the all-time leading scorer in men's Division I college basketball in the Titans' Thursday night loss to Youngstown State in the Horizon League tournament quarterfinals.
The fifth-year star needed 26 points Thursday night to pass "Pistol" Pete Maravich's all-time career scoring record, but finished with 22 points. Davis missed a three-pointer as time expired that would have tied him with Maravich.
Davis, 24, finished Thursday night's game with 3,664 career points, three shy of the record set by Maravich, who set the career scoring mark with 3,667 points.

The Titans' loss (14-19) eliminates them from the Horizon League tournament, which guarantees the winner will play in the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament.
Although another game would practically guarantee Davis the record, the Titans are unlikely to receive an invitation to the big dance.

However, one of the smaller postseason tournaments might invite the Titans. And Head Coach Mike Davis (Antoine's father) indicated he might accept the opportunity.
While another shot at history remains unclear, Antoine Davis reflected on his playing career at Detroit Mercy and playing for this father.
"Just special," Davis said. "I had the opportunity to play for my dad. I was a couple of points short of the record. God knows what he's doing."
